Part 1. Where are iPhone backup files stored on computer

You can find the iTunes backup files on below directory on your computer.

MacOS / OS X: /Users/[USERNAME]/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup.

Windows 8/7/Vista: C:\Users\user\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\user\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup

Part 2. How to Access and Recover iTunes Backup Files

Step 1. Download, install the iPhone data recovery program on computer and run it, go to "Recover from iTunes Backup" option in the main windows, you will see all iTunes backup list in order, select one backup and click "Start Scan" button to extract it.

Step 2. When the scan is over, you can see photos, videos, contacts, text messages, call logs, app audios, whatsapp and other data type on the left panel, tap the one you need and view all data in detail on scan result. If you need to recover them, you can tick all data you need and click "Recover" button to sync data back to iPhone or save data to PC for use.
